Our exchange university Unicen (Universidad National del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires) in Tandil has about 12 000 students. Main campus area, which is constantly growing with new buildings, is located about 7 kilometers from the city center of Tandil, and there are also faculties in Azul and Olavarria. The Faculty of Economics (Facultad de Ciencias Económicas) is biggest with 2 500 students and about 250 professors of which 40 are fulltime.

The ninth edition of the Interactive Media Programme made the IMP 2008 DVD premiere. This attractive DVD with a hilarious user interface presents the shortfilms, interactive movies and other art work made by the students over four months of hard work and intense learning.

The Academic Network of the European Academy of Digital Media (EADiM) had the annual conference in Graz, Austria, end of last week. This year the conference was titled "Design, Develop, Deliver - Multimedia and e-content trends".

Background: TAMK has some exchange universities in South America, one of them is Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (Unicen) in Argentina. When I started to plan my exchange with our international coordinator Riku-Matti Kinnunen, I told him that I am interested to go to Tandil for three reasons: one of my students, Johanna Velling, was here two years ago and another student, Minna Raitapuro, is going to study here next spring. I also wanted to improve my Spanish skills and third, I have been in Argentina before and I really like this country.

Their animation "It Dwells in the Dephts was one of the three nominees in the Animations gategory of the contest. The animation visualises "The Smell of Rain" composed by Kathryn Toyama.

A delegation with representatives of Dutch Media organisations and directors of graphics- and media schools pays this week a visit to Helsinki and Tampere. TAMK School of Art and Media hosts and coordinates the programme of the Tampere leg of the visit. The purpose of the study trip is to learn about innovation and higher education in Finland. It is organised by Media Update, a news and information service for decision makers of ICT and multimedia.

A new Bachelor's Degree Programme in Media, taught in English, will start in 2009 at TAMK School of Art and Media. The draft curriculum for the programme is now published, and will be sent to partners and friends for comments. The curriculum will be finally approved by TAMK University of Applied Sciences Board in January.

For the third year running, students from TAMK School of Art and Media and Okayama University are continuing their cooperation on a game project that started in autumn in 2006. The goal is to create concepts and prototypes for educational training tools used by the chemical industry in Japan. Game elements and interaction are an essential part of the work, as both teams have acknowledged the potential in games as an educational method.
